On a phone? Add the site to your Home Screen: full screen with every feature on iPhone, and new-video notifications on iPhone and Android. Best way to watch on your phone →

1. Start in the Library

After logging in, open "Library" from the top menu. Every video, more than 574 of them, lives there. You see the English videos; switch to JA at the top right to see the Japanese ones.

2. Finding a video

  • The filter on the left has eight groups: Category / Situation / Phase of Engagement / Competition / Submissions / Pins / Guard Passes / Guards & Entanglements. Tap an item to show only those videos.
  • Selecting several items shows only videos that match all of them (for example Situation "Standing" plus Phase "Attacking").
  • Type in the search box and tag suggestions appear above the results. Tap one to filter by that tag. Title search works too.
  • Tapping a tag on a video card filters by that tag as well.
  • Sort by newest, most watched or oldest. On a phone the same controls are behind the "Filter" button.

3. The player

The player is built for studying grappling.

  • A / B — press A at the start of the part you want and B at the end. That section loops. Press again to clear.
  • -10 / +10 — jump back or forward 10 seconds. Double-tap the left side of the video to go back 10 seconds, the right side to go forward.
  • 1× — playback speed, from 0.5× to 2×. Slow down to 0.5× or 0.75× when you need to.
  • Subtitles — each video has subtitles in the language being spoken (Japanese videos in Japanese, English videos in English). Turn them on or off with the "CC" button.
  • Mirror — flips the video horizontally so you can watch it on your own side.
  • Link — copies a link to the current moment so you can send "this part" to a training partner.
  • ♥ — favourite. Favourites are one tap away under "Favorites" on the dashboard.
  • Note — write notes while you watch. They are saved with the timestamp so you can jump straight back to the moment.
  • Playlist — add the video to your own playlist to collect what you are working on.
  • Report — if a subtitle is wrong or something is off with the video, send it from "Report" ("Wrong subtitle" or "Video issue"). We fix things from your reports.
  • Your position is remembered automatically and shows up under "Continue watching" on the dashboard.

On your phone

  • Pinch to zoom — spread two fingers on the video to zoom into the picture (up to 4×). Holding the phone upright, the video frame also grows downward into the empty space below it. Great for seeing grips and foot placement up close.
  • While zoomed in, drag with one finger to look around. Pinch back in to return to normal size. Zoom centres on where you put your fingers.
  • Volume — on a phone, tap the volume button to mute or unmute.

Comments

Use the speech-bubble button in the player to comment on a video. The moment you were watching is saved with your comment, and tapping its time plays the video from that point. Questions and thoughts are always welcome.

4. Dashboard

  • New videos — the latest additions. New videos come every week.
  • Continue watching — videos you are part way through. Tap to resume from where you stopped.
  • The number of videos and minutes watched and the number of notes are shown at the top.

5. Notes and playlists

Notes: leave yourself a comment at "this moment"

When you hit a part that matters, or something you want to try at your next session, press "Note" in the player and write a line. The note is saved together with the exact time in the video.

  • All your notes are listed under "Notes" in the top menu. You can narrow the list to one video.
  • Tap a note and the video starts playing from that moment. No more hunting for "which video was that technique in, and where?"
  • A good habit: read through your notes before training to remind yourself what to work on today.
  • Each note can be up to 100 characters, and you can delete notes you no longer need.

Playlists: build your own collections

Gather the videos you like into collections of your own. They do not have to follow the site's categories; you group them however you think.

  • For example: "This month: half guard", "Watch before the tournament", "Escapes I struggle with".
  • While watching, press "Playlist" in the player to add the current video. You can create a new playlist there too, and the video you are watching goes into it straight away.
  • Open your playlists from "My Playlists" on the dashboard. On a phone, the menu at the top right also takes you straight to "My Playlists" and "Recent Notes". Tap a video in the list to play it right there.

Videos you mark with ♥ (favourites) are listed under "Favorites" on the dashboard.

6. Journal (solving your own problems)

This is Kenta's own way of training turned into a tool. Write down one thing that did not work in training and it becomes an "issue".

  • 01 What did not work? — the position and what happened. You can attach the related video from this site.
  • 02 How might it be solved? — your hypothesis, with a hint video if you found one.
  • 03 What happened after? — what you tried in training. When it holds up in sparring, mark it solved.
  • Issues are visible to other members under "Everyone's issues" (you can keep one private). Other people's issues are good material for your own training.
  • Add updates until it is solved: a hint you found, a sparring check, the solution.

7. Forum

Use "Forum" in the top menu to ask questions. If something in a video is not clear, ask.

Please post your requests for this site in the Forum too. "I wish it could do this", "another online course has this feature and it's really handy": anything goes. Really good ideas get built, and we keep adding them. We'd love to hear what you think.

8. Language

Switch with EN / JA at the top right. The choice is saved to your account, so every device shows the same language.

9. Account, billing and cancelling

  • Open "Account" from the avatar at the top right to change your name or password and to manage billing.
  • The "Billing" line shows your monthly price and the date of your next payment.
  • Change your card or find receipts under "Manage Billing".
  • Once you log in, you stay logged in as long as you keep using the site. You only need to log in again after 30 days without using it.
  • You can be logged in on up to 2 devices at once. Logging in on a third device logs out the one you logged in on first.

Cancelling is not the same as deleting your account

  • Cancel Subscription — stops future payments. You keep access until the last day of the period you have paid for. Your account, notes and playlists stay, so if you join again everything is where you left it. You can undo a cancellation until the period ends.
  • Delete Account — removes the account itself. Your subscription stops right away, and your notes, playlists, watch history and favourites are all erased. This cannot be undone, and you lose access to the rest of the paid period (no prorated refunds).
  • If you only want to stop paying, use Cancel Subscription. Account deletion sits in the red box at the very bottom of the Account page.
  • Before deleting, you can save your data (notes and watch history) with "Export my data".
